Resident Artist Show Nov and Dec

Mankato (MN) – Twin Rivers Council for the Arts will be hosting the resident artists of the Emy Frentz Art Guild presenting their works in the annual exhibition. The exhibition will feature weaving, watercolor pencil, cold wax, and acrylic paintings. The show will run from November 19th through December 17th in the Emy Frentz Arts Guild Gallery, 523 S 2nd Street, Mankato. An opening reception will be held on November 19th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.


New Spike Lee Joint: Chiraq

Spike Lee's new joint, Chiraq, is his new movie about the violence in Chicago that has given it the new moniker, "Chiraq" due to a higher casualty rate in the city than in a combined amount of troop casualties over time in the Iraq war. His newest venture is a peering look into a Midwest city that faces economic, social and cultural challenges in one of the largest cities in the nation, and one with a bloody reputation dating back 100 years or more.


Indie Film 'The Innocents' Now Available at Owatonna Library

Deborah Kerr stars in this brilliant 1962 adaptation of Henry James' classic novel The Turn of the Screw. In this powerful psychological drama about innocence possessed by evil, 19th century British governess Miss Giddens arrives at a bleak country mansion to take charge of the wealthy household's two children. Outwardly the children are little darlings, but the governess begins to feel that there's something unwholesome behind those beatific smiles.


Deadline Extension: Twin Rivers & Emy Frentz Gallery Exhibition

Poet and Fiction Writer Visit Mankato in November

Mankato, Minn. – Poet Jenny Yang Cropp and fiction writer Luke Rolfes will visit Minnesota State University, Mankato on Nov. 12-13 for an Alumni Reading event that is part of the 2015-2016 Good Thunder Reading Series.

On Nov. 12, Cropp and Rolfes will lead a creative writing workshop from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in Centennial Student Union, Room 202, and present a talk on craft from 3:00 pm to 3:50 pm in Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium. They will read from their work at 7:30 pm in Centennial Student Union, Room 245.


Wood Engraving Art in Saint Peter Exhibition

Saint Peter wood engraver Joel Moline is one of 51 artists featured over the course of the next several weeks at the Arts Center of Saint Peter located along Hwy. 169 in Southern Minnesota.

The Wood Engravers' Triennial Exhibition is going on until the third week in November. A free reception will take place November 28 at the Arts Center of Saint Peter to close the exhibition. Much of the wood engraving art is on sale at the Exhibition and free public reception at the arts center.

Mankato art exhibit features Bethany College students' art

Mankato (MN) – Twin Rivers Council for the Arts is hosting a new art exhibit throughout the Landkamer building located at 524 E. Walnut Street in City Center Mankato. The exhibit has been curated by two Bethany art students as part of the Twin Rivers art gallery internship program. The exhibit will feature drawings and paintings by eight Bethany Lutheran College art students. The exhibit will run from November 2 – January 3. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 5 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Hors d'oeuvres and cash bar provided by Number 4 Restaurant.


Schells Releases Apparent Horizon Noble Star Sour Berliner Weisse

August Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm recently released the eighth edition of its Noble Star Collection of craft beer that belongs in the Berliner Weisse sour styles. It is called Apparent Horizon and it is noted for its unusual hint of rye malt.

“With Apparent Horizon, we wanted to put a twist on the fruity acidity normally found in a Berliner Weisse,” said Jace Marti, Schell’s brewmaster and sixth generation member of the Schell’s family.
